A good win sees Coburg go marching on in the cup.
we started quite poorly with Ventnor having quite a few chances, sorry defence but you were shocking for the first 20 minutes. and it was fair to say there we were being slightly stitched up by some generous decisions from our linesman. think this is something we need to get wise on guys, i dont like cheating but every club does it against us, but we seem scared to give the tight decisions our way!! Apart from Morety who is getting as bad as Casey!! lol
back to the game . . . . we survived through to about the 20 minute mark and when malc and spiers introduced themselves to one another we took control of the game. our wingers were having plenty of joy and after about 25 mins Coburg took the lead. a brilliant ball in from the inspirational skipper Bradley saw levi ghost in and smash a goal past the keeper. at 1-0 it was party time in Bradley's head, a beautiful flick through his legs set sam up to balloon over the bar before the Rivaldo flicks were introduced which resulted in Malcy and Spiersy shouting abuse from the halfway line! i could go on about how good the skipper is but i dont need to tell you so will move on.
it wasn't long before it was 2-0, chris turned on a sixpence in the box and hit a shot that just about reached the goal-line, luckily the keeper palmed it in to double our lead. chris didn't celebrate to be fair and Bradley tried to claim it unsuccesfully. the next goal was probably the best goal so far this season in terms of a great strike. spiersy danced forward to the edge of their box and realising where he was promptly collapsed in a heap before some classy break dancing meant he kept the ball and was then able to release it to Dan who struck a shot right into the top corner giving the keeper no chance! good strike, good assist.
Half time 3-0 to the Burg.
The second half started much the same as the first ended with some good possession football, Ben was involved in nearly everything and was brilliant all game. we struggled in the centre as they put 3 midfielders in there and their striker kept dropping off but we were never under any real pressure. i think Ash scored the next goal to make it 4-0 and this was another class finish. after beating 2 or 3 defenders with some of the Ashley Timberlake hip shakes he then dinked the ball over the keeper who was off his line. another great goal. a few minutes later and we were out of sight after Chris calmly finished after some good build up play to make it 5-0. the rest of the game was drifitng by before someone decided (rather suicidally) to throw away the clean sheet by putting Malc in goal. Josh went up front and with 2 minutes left their striker ran through and lobbed the stranded Malcy to give them a consolation goal.
full time 5-1. this was a pretty decent performance and to be fair these games are all about the results. we are now in the quarters and can look at the next round vs wakes reserves i think.
To clear up why Spiers got Bradley's clown of the match, after his breakdancing antics Ash made a little comment of Hammertime to congratulate Spiersy who laughed. when we got back to the pub and were talking spiersy announced that he suddenly understood what Hammertime meant so i have no idea what he was laughing at on the pitch!?! my guess is Andy Ash had said he was going to head it properly!! lol. but Spiersy you're this weeks clown!!"
